The ICTY

Today I went to the ICTY in The Hague (Den Haag). For those of you not up on your international legal lingo, it is the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. (Slobodan Milosevic, et al.) It was so cool! For one thing, there is a King County Prosecutor who has been working there for a few years who welcomed me and showed me around. Without such a great contact I still would have been able to see the three courtrooms but nothing else.

As it turned out, I met him and was able to go backstage into the prosecutors' offices and meet some of his colleagues and chat about prosecuting war criminals! A very exciting day! I even saw some of these not-so-likable-war-criminal-fellows in the trials that were going on.
